Carlisle Brake & Friction Inc is Hiring a Data Science Manager Near Carlisle, PA

The Data Science Manager will report to the Director of Innovation and will be responsible for delivery of innovation acceleration and R&D service improvement through the leadership of the R&D Innovation data science team and digital lab. This will be a high visibility role operating under the general guidance of the CCM EVP R&D and the Director of Innovation with frequent report outs to division and corporate executive staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Partner with the Innovation Director, R&D scientists, and management team members to identify opportunities for the application of data science to accelerate product and service innovation and improve R&D service to the business.
  • Leadership and talent development of innovation data science and digital lab team members.
  • Identification, justification, prioritization, execution, delivery, and communication of data projects that will accelerate innovation and R&D services.
  • Collaborate with R&D scientists, directors, and managers to identify projects and ensure proper use of data in innovation and support research resulting in the creation of business value. Oversight of data mining, exploration, analysis, and visualization activities.
  • Establish and continuously improve data science architecture, technology stack, governance, policies, standards, and processes.
  • Identify and develop partnerships with vendors and other stakeholders to enhance the R&D innovation data science mission.
  • Advocate and promote data informed innovation within CCM through presentations, mentoring and project communication. Contribute to and influence strategic direction and capital deployment for this purpose.
  • Collaborate with IT, sales, and operations leaders to establish best practices, architecture, policies, and strategy for enterprise data science.
  • Oversight of the digital innovation lab dedicated for the application of technology in building science and materials innovation.
Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:
  • Demonstrated team leadership and talent development capabilities.
  • Demonstrated strong project management capabilities (certifications appreciated).
  • Strong business acumen and ability to illustrate and communicate business value for data projects. Experience with development of quantitative and qualitative business cases.
  • Working knowledge of technologies, software, and hardware commonly utilized in a data science environment:
  • Knowledge of data science languages and toolkits (such as R, Python, Java, NumPy, and MatLab)
  • Experience with big data analytics technologies (such as Spark and Hadoop)
  • Experience with data visualization tools (such as D3.js and Tableau)
  • Expertise in data mining, collection, and machine learning
  • Working knowledge of statistical models and business intelligence
  • Ability to store and process unstructured data with databases and machine learning models
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical details in business language and relate technical concepts to a business impact.
  • Skilled in organizing and motivating team members to produce high-quality, on-time results.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and communicate strategy, vision, and direction and to embrace and facilitate change.
  • Advanced root cause problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate and coordinate tactical plans impacting the growth of needs for data services.
  • A demonstrated ability to leverage existing resources to maximize technology investments.
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a business environment
  • Minimum bachelor's degree in data science, data analytics, or related field with -or- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a quantitative field, such as statistics, computer science, mathematics, or engineering
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with leadership and talent development with direct reports
Travel Requirement
  • Travel is required for this position - occasional travel for meetings, trainings, and conferences.
  • Expect up to one week per month, typically.
  • location may vary and may require overnight stays.
